‘Justice will be served Calabarzon victims’

No less than Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra assured the families of those killed in the simultaneous military and police operations in Calabarzon last 7 March that justice will be served including the death of union leader Dandy Miguel.

Guevarra made the assurance when he met with the families saying all remedies will be exhausted to bring truth to light .

“I assured the victims’ families that all reasonable efforts shall be exerted to find out the truth and asked them to trust the integrity of the Administrative Order (AO) 35 mechanism and its capability to dispense justice.”

The investigating teams of the AO 35 Task Force have been created to probe the death of nine activists in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Rizal. A separate team was created to investigate the killing of Miguel last 28 Marchin Laguna province.

The AO 35 task force is a special unit of the Department of Justice that conducts an investigation into politically-motivated killings or extrajudicial killings of members of civil society groups, political movements, people’s and non-government organizations.

During the simultaneous operations, nine activists died and six others were arrested by the police and military in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Rizal.

Report have it that the government forces were able to recover explosives, several firearms, and subversive documents during the operations.

The simultaneous raids were carried out by the Philippine National Police together with the Armed Forces of the Philippines to serve search warrants for loose firearms and illegal possession of explosives.

The labor leader though was gunned down by a still unidentified assailant while on board a motorcycle in Barangay Canlubang. He died on the spot.
