Former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada’s family on Tuesday appealed for prayers from relatives, friends, and supporters after his medical condition worsened.

He was rushed to a hospital on 28 March for complaining of body weakness and fatigue.

Estrada, also a former mayor of the cities of  San Juan and Manila, was found positive for Covid-19 following a swab test that was required for hospital admission.

He was placed on a ventilator a day after he was moved to ICU (intensive care unit) as his pneumonia worsened, his son former Senator JV Ejercito shared.

“Covid is unpredictable. My dad was recuperating very well the past few days when suddenly it shifted yesterday when his Pneumonia worsened, thus the need to use a ventilator,” Ejercito posted on his social media account.

“Your prayers would mean a lot,” he said — a message also shared by Estrada’s eldest son, Jinggoy Estrada, also a former Senator.

“My father’s condition suffered a setback as his pneumonia worsened,” the younger Estrada said. “Because of this and the resulting increase in oxygen requirement, his doctors decided to place him on mechanical ventilation.”

“This was done to improve oxygen delivery, as well as to prevent the tiring of his respiratory mechanism. My father has always been a fighter and I hope that with the help of your prayers he will win this battle.” Estrada added.
