Globe Telecom partnered with Niantic, the developer of Codename: Urban Legends, to bring an enhanced Augmented Reality (AR) gaming experience to Filipino gamers.

Popularized by Pokemon GO in 2016, AR allows gamers to interact and play together in the real world, a feature that requires high bandwidth, low latency, and massive simultaneous device connectivity that can only be catered by Globe, the pioneer and leader of 5G technology in the country.

“Together with Niantic, we aim to revolutionize the world of mobile gaming with faster speeds, ultra-low latency, and improved HD video streaming, among others,” Nikko Acosta, Senior Vice President for Product Management and Content Business Group of Globe, said.

Codename: Urban Legends lets players team up to cast magic spells to blast monsters, and rescue mythical allies, including Doty, the original Niantic Explorer.

Made to be the “killer app” for AR and 5G, Globe had tested the game in March that ultimately yielded positive results.
