Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo on Tuesday asserted that Vice President Leni Robredo is a walking contradiction after saying that the opposition should unite in the 2022 presidential elections despite her earlier statement that “it is a sin to talk about politics” during pandemic.

In his online daily program, “Counterpoint”, Panelo was reacting to a radio interview of Robredo wherein she said that there is a need to talk about 2022 polls, saying “there is too much at stake” in the elections.

“She is singing a different tune. Now, she is saying the opposition cannot afford to be divided as this will result to another six years of this kind of governance. Sorry to say, VP Leni, even if the opposition unites, I don’t think, you will win,” Panelo said.

The Palace official recalled that during an interview on 16 March 2021, Robredo said it is a sin to talk about the 2022 elections amid the current crisis the country is facing brought by the pandemic.

“Now, it is the opposite. She does not only think of the elections but also presenting it to the public. She said there is a need to discuss it now. We can see your inconsistencies, Ate VP Leni.  You are a walking contradiction my dear,” Panelo added.

According to Panelo, Robredo should not be too dependent on her advisers.

Panelo added that Robredo even criticized an official of the government who is allegedly already campaigning.

“Robredo while did not mention the official, she said a presidential aspirant is already campaigning by going around the country but she is saying the people should not lose interest in the election just because she is not running. What do you think of yourself?” Panelo noted.

“Despite her claims of not thinking about running, she is talking about the elections and effectively campaigning either for herself or for the opposition,” he added.

Panelo also maintained that the 2022 presidential elections will be a performance test for the administration.

“The opposition should really unite so that we can see whether the elections will be a performance test for the Duterte administration as against the opposition’s tandem,” Panelo said.

Panelo added that a tandem of either Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and President Rodrigo Duterte or Senator Christopher “Bong”Go and Duterte will be a sure win in the next elections.

“The destined to be successor of this administration, is the tandem of either  Sara-Digong or Bong-Digong,” he said.
