Convicted former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez has passed away Saturday morning, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) disclosed.
In a statement, BuCor spokesperson Asec. Gabriel Chaclag said Sanchez “was found unresponsive in his cell” and was brought to the New Bilibid Prison Hospital around 8:30 a.m. where he was declared dead on arrival.
“His body is now subject for autopsy as per procedure on sudden deaths,” Chaclag noted.
Sanchez gained notoriety after being sentenced to seven terms of reclusion perpetua, or up to 40 years imprisonment, for the rape and murder of UP Los Baños student Eileen Sarmenta and also the death of her boyfriend, Allan Gomez, in 1993.
