Ellen Degeneres is confronted by two major challenges in her personal and professional life.
The 63-year-old celebrity’s afternoon talk show The Ellen Degeneres Show has suffered a huge setback, losing 1.5 million viewers in the last six months, according to Nielsen ratings.
The decline in audiences was prompted by controversies surrounding the show, where former staff testified they experienced “racism, fear and intimidation” on the set.
Sexual harassment complaints were also filed against its executives Kevin Leman, Ed Glavin and Jonathan Norman who were all fired from the show.
Adding to the show’s debacles is the emergency surgery that Ellen’s wife, actor Portia de Rossi, underwent last weekend due to appendicitis.
In a monologue Ellen taped for her show’s 24 March episode, she said she couldn’t stay in the hospital with Portia throughout the surgery due to the risk of contracting Covid-19.
“That’s upsetting to me. They sent me home and I’m crying,” Ellen said.
She likewise said that she tried to offer Ellen show tickets to hospital staff who were taking care of Portia, but they declined.
While Ellen can still crack a joke in her monologue, netizens wonder if she is slowly losing her charm and luster.
