It has been a decade and a half since Miley Cyrus portrayed the character Miley Stewart who lived a double life as pop singer Hannah Montana in the 2006 American teen sitcom, Hannah Montana.

The show ran for four seasons from March 2006 to January 2011.

In an Instagram post on 24 March, exactly 15 years after the show’s first airing, Miley posted a handwritten letter to the character she inhabited for six years.

Miley — who skyrocketed to fame with her alter ego who was blonde and often wore bedazzled outfits — didn’t imagine that Hannah Montana would draw millions of fans worldwide.

Miley said there was a time when Hannah Montana held “more of Cyrus’ identity” in the character’s glovette in real life.

In return, Miley pointed out that Hannah Montana gave her a “superlative amount” of fame.

“But A LOT has changed since then. You were like a rocket that flew me to the moon and never brought me back down,” Miley said.

“You and I have been through it all together,” the 28-year-old singer-songwriter said.

From the time she auditioned for the show, to losing her grandfather, to falling in love, and to going through teenage years, Miley said, “We have shared many firsts. A lot of lasts. Ups. Downs.

Tears and laughs.”

She went on: “I experienced falling in love for the first time in those years. Embarrassingly started my period in a pair of white capris. Of course, on the day a ‘cute guy’ was cast and asked to have lunch with me, I spent it in the bathroom with my mom sobbing and scrambling to find a pair of fresh denim.”

Her co-stars Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso and Jason Earles grew close to her in those six years. “I was seeing them more than my own,” she said. “Well, besides my dad who I drove to work with everyday until my mom let me buy a Prius.”

She concluded by expressing gratitude to everyone involved in the show — most of all her character:

“A building in Burbank, California with a room full of people with the power to fulfill my destiny. And that they did. They gave me you. The greatest gift a girl could ever ask for. I love you, Hannah Montana,” Miley said.
