After the ‘no’ votes: 3 seaports in Palawan open today

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) inaugurate three seaport projects in El Nido, Bataraza, and Coron in Palawan today, 19 March.

In a press statement, the DoTr said the inauguration signals the start of operations of the newly constructed Port of San Fernando in El Nido, Port of Bataraza in Brgy. Buliluyan, Bataraza, and Borac Port in Brgy. Borac in Coron.

“The three ports are an integral part of the regional transport infrastructure development, under the massive BUILD, BUILD, BUILD program of the Duterte administration,” the DoTr said.

The Port of San Fernando now has a new causeway, back-up area, and a reinforced concrete (RC) wharf with RORO (roll-on, roll-off) ramps; while the Port of Bataraza also has an improved wharf, back-up area, and port lighting system.

Meanwhile, developments at the Borac Port include improvements of its back-up area, construction of concrete pavement, and the supply and installation of lamp posts, rubber dock fenders, and mooring bollards.

The DoTr said the completion of the port projects improve mobility and connectivity of the people in the province and facilitate faster movements of trading in the province.

The projects also provide the public with a more convenient trip by sea while bringing economic growth to the province of Palawan.

The ports of San Fernando, Bataraza, and Borac are among the 424 completed seaport projects of the DOTr and PPA since 2016.
