Members of the Army’s 45th Infantry Battalion conducted a clearing operation in the area after a resident reported seeing armed men resting about 1 kilometer from the road there, the report said.
Soldiers found sachets of coffee and condiments, some vegetables, clothing, rain boots, and laminated sacks at the encampment.
“Based on what was left at the encampment, we believe that the enemy had just left the area around 12 noon,” said Maj. Vicente Mabborang, 45th IB commander.
Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, JTF-Sulu commander, said it was the fourth Abu Sayyaf encampment found in Patikul since last month.
Troops are marking such encampments to further constrict the militants’ movements, he said.
“We are aiming to end the Abu Sayyaf at the soonest time possible,” Gonzales added.
