2 killed, 3 hurt after van plunges into ravine

BAGUIO CITY– Two individuals were killed while three were injured after the van they were riding fell into a 180-deep ravine in Balinciagao Sur, Pasil, Kalinga Friday night.
The two fatalities were identified as couple Marilou and Daniel Minong. The other three victims who suffered injuries and now being treated at the hospital were identified as Jerymar Baddongon, Ariel Laputan and John Reich Dawaton. The driver was identified as Edmar Baddongon.
Reports said the van was traversing the road in Salimutmut, Balinciagao Sur when the vehicle experienced a mechanical problem and the driver lost control of the brakes. The driver and one of the passengers jumped out of the van before it plunged into the ravine at 6 p.m.
Minutes later, residents in the area were able to rescue Jerrymar Baddongon first. At around 6:15 PM, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Pasil personnel together with the residents and members of the Pasil Police found the other victims except for Daniel and Marilou Minong.
At around 7:30 PM, the lifeless bodies of Daniel and his wife were retrieved.
The victims were all brought to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital.
