A former communist rebel leader was arrested while another member surrendered to government forces in Aurora and neighboring Nueva Ecija, police reported.
Policemen and soldiers arrested Delfin Pimentel, former secretary of the Aurora Provincial Committee under the Central Luzon Regional Committee, at his home in Brgy. Ditumabo, San Luis, Aurora, around 6:30 p.m., according to a report from the regional police.
The 62-year-old Pimentel, also known by the aliases “Crispin, “Levin,” “Medy,” and “Sonny,” still serves as a member and was arrested on warrants for destructive arson and attempted homicide, the report said.
Minutes later, around 7 p.m., an alleged member of the New People’s Army surrendered to policemen and soldiers in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija.
The surrenderor, identified only as an alias “Rene,” is an NPA member operating in Nueva Ecija and Tarlac under the command of Danny De Guzman alias “Robert,” according to the provincial police.
He surrendered an improvised caliber-.38 pistol with one magazine and three rounds of live ammunition, as well as a rifle grenade, police said.
