A tricycle driver landed in jail after he was found to be carrying P120,000 worth of marijuana at a checkpoint he was trying to evade in Caloocan City early Tuesday morning.
Caloocan Police chief Col. Samuel Mina Jr. identified the suspect as Roberto Roque Jr., 27, of Masaya Street, RP Gulod, Novaliches, Quezon City
Roque’s accomplice, who managed to escape from cops manning the checkpoint, is now the subject of a manhunt.
Caloocan Police Sub-Station 12 personnel were conducting a checkpoint at around 1:15 a.m. at Phase 9, Langit Road corner Lacson Road in Bagong Silang when they stopped the suspects who were riding a motorcycle.
The suspects instead ignored the checkpoint and accelerated, causing their eco bag, which contained dried marijuana leaves, to fall to the ground.
Police quickly chased the suspects, managing to arrest Roque who was driving the motorcycle.
Confiscated from Roque’s possession was a one-kilogram block of suspected dried marijuana leaves with a street value of P120,000.
The suspect will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
