KALIBO, Aklan — Kalibo Mayor Emerson Lachica wants Kalibo to become the first local government to rollout the Covid-19 vaccine to the local residents.
Lachica, in a press briefing, said that since last month, they had already formed a technical working group and started forging an agreement with a private pharmaceutical firm for the inoculation program of their constituents.
“We hope that we could start the inoculation program within this year. We had allocated around P50 million for this project,” he said.
Kalibo is estimated to have 86,000 original residents, where at least 80 percent of them should be vaccinated sometime within the year. However, settlers and borders in Kalibo are not counted.
The mayor said that Kalibo residents who want to avail of the vaccination program are urged to register at the Kalibo government website.
“We have identified two vaccination sites. They are at the Pastrana Park and nearby the Aklan Catholic College Gym,” he added.
But Lachica did not disclose the name of the vaccine company as negotiations of the local government continues.
For her part, Kalibo Vice Mayor Cynthia de la Cruz said that she wanted, together with the members of the Sanguniang Bayan, to be also inoculated under the vaccination program.
