Childhood scenes bring hope and joy

‘BELLINE’ by Celeste Lecaroz.

Painter Celeste Lecaroz — known for her Mamba Forever portrait of Kobe Bryant that went viral, spontaneous realism paintings of Filipino taipans and pastel artworks of turn-of-the-century Filipinas — will hold her fifth one-woman show entitled Blue Skies, Crimson Wind, at Eastwood City Mall’s The Atrium from 1 to 11 March 2021. Reception with the artist will be on 1 March at 6 p.m.

The Covid-19 pandemic motivated Lecaroz to reflect on the impact of the health crisis and ponder on how she may translate her musings into new paintings. She felt that the mission of an artist should continue especially when the entire world is on standstill and in need of hope.

Blue Skies, Crimson Wind features pastel paintings of playful flower girls in impressionism style.

‘Alex’ by Celeste Lecaroz.

“To paint a subject as joyful as childhood play almost feels like an antithesis to all the turmoil that has happened in the past year,” Palanca-winning writer Och Gonzales said of the collection.

“And yet this is exactly what artist Celeste Lecaroz chose as the subject of her latest series of pastel paintings — a treatise on sisterhood and what it means to keep seeking and finding joy in these troubled times. The series is a fitting welcome for March as we celebrate Women’s Month.”
