Carmina on villain role: ‘Exciting and challenging’

Yes, people hate her (Dulce) but I also want them to understand where the woman is coming from. To begin with, there’s no bad person. It’s the situation and circumstances that made people the way they are

Playing a villain is both a challenge and thrill, according to seasoned actor Carmina Villarroel.

In GMA Network’s newest afternoon primetime show Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat, which airs today, 22 February, Villarroel takes the role of Dulce Espejo-Tanaka, a materialistic and conniving woman who vows to take everything from her ex-husband for the sake of her children.

CARMINA Villarroel takes on a challenging yet exciting role that’s different from her in real life.

While Villarroel acted as kontrabida in several shows such as Got to Believe, Bridges of Love and Doble Kara, she still gets that awkward feeling whenever she portrays a character who is completely different from her real-life persona.

In a video conference, she said “My role is very different from Carmina. It’s both exciting and challenging.”

JOHN Estrada is Victor, Carmina’s ex-husband.

Although they are both mothers who would do everything for their children, the only difference is Dulce’s harmful manner of doing it, Villaroel said.

“She only thinks of herself and her children. Dulce doesn’t care if she’s already stepping on other people’s rights,” Villarroel remarked.

She shared that it was really difficult to step into Dulce’s shoes, but since she loves acting, she did her part by studying the ways on how to better take on such a challenging role.

PAULINE as Iris, a princess whose good life is taken away by her father’s old flame arrived.

Villarroel added, “Yes, people hate her (Dulce) but I also want them to understand where the woman is coming from. To begin with, there’s no bad person. It’s the situation and circumstances that made them the way they are.”
But, this does not mean that Villarroel is condoning her character’s actions. “I think Filipino viewers are smart enough to know that I’m just portraying a role, that this is not the real Carmina,” she said.

Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat follows the story of Iris (Pauline Mendoza) who was raised like a princess by her parents Victor (John Estrada) and Christine (Tanya Garcia-Lapid). When Victor’s old flame Dulce (Carmina Villarroel), together with her two children Joel (Kristoffer Martin) and Trina (Liezel Lopez), comes barging into their lives and begins to take everything away, Iris is forced to shed her innocence and fight against her relatives to regain what is rightfully hers.

Other cast members are Therese Malvar, Tanya Gomez, Gio Alvarez, Manolo Pedrosa, Neil Ryan Sese, Dave Bornea, Jett Pangan, Jenine Desiderio and Charee Pineda. The teleserye is directed by Jules Katanyag. Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat airs weekdays on GMA Network.
