Eight cats, four dogs, and two sets of love birds died when a fire gutted four houses in Caloocan City Saturday afternoon.
The fire broke out in one of the four houses on Baltazar street, barangay 69, at past 12 noon.
The fire reportedly started from an unattended stove.
Naomi Zulueta, the owner of the house where the fire started, said she was operating the washing machine and forgot that the stove was on as she was simultaneously cooking food for her pets until the smoke billowed from the kitchen.
She said she ran fast outside, leaving all her pets — four dogs, eight cats and two sets of love birds — inside her burning house which also immediately spread to other houses.
Zulueta added she does not have any children and her pets were her only companions.
