The Civil Relations Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (CRS-AFP) said that it has no intention to disrespect and mislead the public in providing information after they were called out by the University of the Philippines (UP) for inadvertently naming one Michael Eric Castillo in a Facebook post as a current professor in the university.

In a statement, the CRS-AFP stressed the quotes, which came from Castillo when he guested last week on the “Up Up Pilipinas” radio program of the Philippine Air Force where he gave his personal comments on the Department of National Defense’ (DND) decision to abrogate its accord with UP, were also accurate.

Now that UP has made a clarification, we will repost the social cards without the UP seal and refer to Mr. Castillo as ‘UP alumnus and former senior lecturer’

“The CRS-AFP has no intention to disrespect and mislead the public in providing information. The quotes were accurate as they were lifted from the actual statements made by Mr. Eric Castillo during the ‘Up Up Pilipinas’ radio program on 22 January 2021,” the CRS-AFP said.

The CRS-AFP also said its use of UP’s official logo was of good intention and was retrieved from open source.

“Now that UP has made a clarification, we will repost the social cards without the UP seal and refer to Mr. Castillo as ‘UP alumnus and former senior lecturer,’” the CRS-AFP said.

In a statement it posted on its Facebook account, UP clarified that Mr. Castillo is no longer affiliated with the university as a faculty member, having served as a part-time senior lecturer of UP Diliman from 2013 to 2017.

In the same social media post, UP stressed it respects and upholds the rights of all of its constituents to freedom of expression and academic freedom.

Meanwhile, in a separate Facebook post, Castillo thanked UP for taking the time to issue a clarificatory statement about the status of his institutional affiliation/relations with them.

“While I did not cause the posting of the FB posts, I stand by my public statement of my disagreement with the UP-DND Accord. I hope concerned UP officials will also take time viewing the entire interview where I was quoted by the AFP-CRS and other interviews by other media outfits,” Castillo said.
