Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Secretary Salvador Panelo praised Vaccine czar and National Task Force on CoVid-19 response chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr., for his humility when he apologized to senators for his remarks in relation to the Senate inquiry on the government’s Covid-19 vaccine rollout.

Panelo, at the same time, praised Galvez for saving the Philippines some $700 million in the purchase of Covid-19 vaccine brands through government deals.

In his online program, “Counterpoint,” Panelo said for him there’s no need for Galvez to issue an apology considering that he’s not at fault but in fact a victim in the ongoing Senate inquiry, amid fears by some of possible corruption in the government’s vaccine purchase.

“Secretary Galvez, like what I previously stated to you, is a kind man. You see he even apologized. To me he should not have apologize considering he is not at fault, he is the victim.

The one who should apologize are those insinuating that he is corrupt,” he added.

Panelo said some senators would say that they are just doing their job as part of the Senate’s oversight functions in inquiring about the government’s vaccination program, but there are many ways of conducting an inquiry without putting the resource person in a situation where the viewers or listeners will be encouraged to have any doubts.

Panelo previously vouched for the integrity of Galvez amid fears by some of possible corruption in the government’s vaccine purchase.

The former presidential spokesperson also shut down insinuations that Galvez, a former chief of staff of the Armed Forces, is taking part in any irregularity. He even described Galvez as an honest and simple man.

“You know, Secretary Galvez is a very simple man. He’s honest. And those who are with him are also honest. First and foremost, the President is honest, if the President is honest of course down the line dishonesty will not work. The President will kick him out from work, he will immediately be removed,” he said.

Panelo, at the same time, praised Galvez for saving the Philippines some $700 million in the purchase of Covid-19 vaccine brands through government deals.

The one who should apologize are those insinuating that he is corrupt.

“Imagine that,” he exclaimed. “Based on his computation we were able to save $700 million, that’s huge amount of money that’s why he was upset. I cannot understand those in the Senate, they are doubting him.”
