Government forces clashed with Abu Sayyaf members under top commander Radullan Sahiron in Patikul, Sulu, this morning, the military reported.
Members of the Army’s 2nd Special Forces Battalion encountered about 15 militants in Brgy. Langhub, around 10 a.m., according to an initial report from the Armed Forces’ Joint Task Force-Sulu.
The firefight lasted for about 15 minutes, before the militants withdrew.
Soldiers initially recovered an M16 rifle, a charging handle and firing mechanism of an M16 rifle, backpacks, cellphones, and combat boots at the clash site.
It has yet to be determined if there were casualties among the militants.
Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, commander of the Army’s 11th Infantry Division and JTF-Sulu, said troops are still pursuing the militants.
