Infected tourist enters Boracay

Boracay Island, Aklan- Not able to resist the opportunity to see Boracay, a tourist from Manila is in hot water after entering the resort island despite being a coronavirus disease (Covid) carrier.

Dr. Cornelio Cuachon of the Provincial Health Office said based on their initial investigation, the unidentified tourist took his first test in Manila last 14 January where he already found himself positive of the infection.
Since he already booked a flight and reserved a hotel room at Boracay, he tried to do another RT PCR test at a different clinic 16 January.

“The second RT PCR test came out negative. The next day 17 January, he was able to enter Boracay using his negative RT PCR test result,” Cuachon said.

Manila mischief
The tourist brought with him his girlfriend and stayed at a hotel in Boracay for a few days.

“As soon as we received a report about his condition, we immediately asked the cooperation of police authorities in accosting him. We then transferred the couple to the Aklan Training Center in Kalibo to quarantine themselves. We are now preparing charges against the suspect for violating the Bayanihan law,” Cuachon said.

Earlier, Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores called for tighter surveillance as more tourists as a result of several instances in which tourists use a fake PCR test to enter Boracay.

Report said at least 20 tourists from Manila on various occasions attempted to go to Boracay using a fake RT PCR test. All of them have been charged in court.
