Duque to convince Duterte to publicize his COVID-19 vaccination

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III on Friday said he will convince President Rodrigo Duterte to have his COVID-19 vaccination publicized.

His statement came after he was asked if he is willing to persuade the Chief Executive to be publicly inoculated, as Senator Nancy Binay noted that nearly 50 percent of Filipinos are not willing to get vaccinated.

“We will try our best to convince the president to perhaps publicly allow himself to be vaccinated but we will respect his ultimate decision whatever it is,” said Duque.

The Health chief’s statement is contrary to the recent statement of Malacañang, saying Duterte will be inoculated in private.

Binay also asked should the Department of Health wanted to seek celebrities’ help in disseminating information that will encourage the Filipinos to get safe and necessary vaccines.

Duque jokingly suggested Binay, Senate President Vicente Sotto III, and their colleagues to join him in getting COVID-19 vaccines.

In response, Sotto said he is willing to get vaccinated as long as their inoculation will not be seen as VIP treatment.

“Payag akong mauna as long as walang aangal, baka may aangal na naman ‘pag nagpapauna ako e,” Sotto said.

Duque seconded Sotto’s statement saying, the public may criticize this move as “VIP treatment.”
