Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat on Thursday announced the cancellation of the authority to operate of City Garden Grand Hotel in Makati City after it allowed the New Year’s party that led to the death of flight attendant Christine Dacera.
Puyat said aside from the revocation of the permit to operate during pandemic, the DOT also slapped the hotel of six months suspension of its accreditation.
“We issued show cause order against the City Garden Grand Hotel and while they answered it, our decision is to suspend its accreditation for six months and a fine of P10,000 as well as the cancellation of the certificate of authority to operate,” Puyat said.
Puyat added that the DOT found enough pieces of evidence that the hotel violated the certificate of authority to operate.
“Basically, their answer was they are not involved in bookings and are operating as quarantine facility but this was contrary to the findings we have,” she noted.
She added that the City Garden Grand Hotel can still appeal the DOT order.
“We will still follow due process but this is our decision,” Puyat said.
Dacera was found unconscious after celebrating New Year’s Day with 12 persons at the City Garden Grand Hotel.
She was declared dead on arrival at Makati Medical Center.
