Senator Christopher “Bong” Go personally visited Obando, Bulacan and distributed assistance on Tuesday, 12 January to more than 500 beneficiaries composed of families who lost their houses to a fire incident, and tricycle and padyak drivers whose livelihoods were adversely affected by the ongoing crisis.

Andito ako ngayon para mabisita kayo at makapagbigay ng tulong,” Go said in his speech.

Under strict health and safety protocols, Go and his team distributed meals, medicines, financial assistance, food packs, vitamins, masks, and face shields to fifteen families affected by fire, 290 tricycle drivers, and 195 padyak drivers at Obando Central School. The Senator also provided financial assistance and other forms of aid to the fire victims.

In addition to the 195 padyak drivers who received assistance, Go also committed to extend similar aid to an additional 505 padyak drivers on a later date.

Go and his team also gave selected recipients bicycles which will help them in their daily commute to work because of limited public transport options. Another set of beneficiaries were also given computer tablets for their children’s use to participate better in their classes as part of the blended learning approach. Others were also given pairs of shoes.

Go said.

Go also told the fire victims that once the COVID-19 vaccine is considered safe, effective, and available as approved by the Food and Drug Administration, the government will prioritize and ensure access for the poor and the vulnerable sectors.

Huwag ho kayong mag-alala.

On his way to the distribution activity, Go met some construction workers who he endorsed to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to get appropriate aid. Representatives of the said department also provided additional financial assistance to the fire victims.

Personnel from the Department of Trade and Industry assessed and validated possible beneficiaries for their livelihood support. The National Housing Authority also provided the recipients options either to receive housing assistance or to relocate to a housing site in Pandi, Bulacan.

Additionally, the Department of Agriculture (DA) distributed sardines and bags of rice to the fire victims. Small boats were also given to fisherfolks of the community.

Go then thanked the local government officials of Obando, headed by Mayor Edwin Santos and Representative Henry Villarica who attended the said event. He also expressed his gratitude to barangay officials for their untiring service to their constituents.

After the distribution activity, Go proceeded to Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial Hospital in Rodriguez, Rizal to attend the Malasakit Center launch. It is the 98th Malasakit Center in the country.
