PNP sacks killer cop

He was charged administratively for grave misconduct in 2013, another one for less serious neglect of duty for failing to submit himself to drug testing in 2014, and serious neglect of duty for failing to appear as a prosecution witness in a drug case in 2016.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief PGen. Debold Sinas on Monday sacked PSSgt. Jonel Nuezca on the recommendation of the PNP Internal Affairs Service which also pushed administrative cases against the killer of a mother and her son in Tarlac last December.

Nuezca, caught on video shooting his neighbors — 52-year-old Sonya and her son 25-year-old Frank Anthony — that resulted in their instantaneous death following a heated exchange, was officially dropped from the rolls for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.

“The dismissal was already implemented by the regional director of NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office), PBGen. Vicente Danao,” Sinas during his press briefing in Camp Crame.

“As to the criminal case, it is still ongoing,” he added.

The dismissed cop earlier pleaded not guilty to the two counts of murder slapped against him during the arraignment and pre-trial proceedings held last 7 January at the Tarlac Regional Trial Court Branch 106.

The next hearing is slated for 4 February.

It was not the first time Nuezca, assigned at the Parañaque Police Crime Laboratory at the time the crime against the Gregorios was committed, was dealt penalties by the PNP over his errant ways.

He was charged administratively for grave misconduct in 2013, another one for less serious neglect of duty for failing to submit himself to drug testing in 2014, and serious neglect of duty for failing to appear as a prosecution witness in a drug case in 2016.

Nuezca was likewise embroiled in two homicide cases which were later dismissed by the court “due to lack of evidence and witnesses.”

He is currently detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in Tarlac.

Meanwhile, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo also on Monday called on all policemen to always put to heart President Rodrigo Duterte’s reminder for them not to abuse their power in enforcing the laws relative to the government’s war on criminality and illegal drugs.
