K-Pop superstar IU will have a new single dropping on 27 January that will precede the release of a full-length album. This was confirmed by the artist’s talent agency EDAM Entertainment, which described the song as having a “bright, cheerful, pop sound.”
Her last album was 2017’s Palette, which Billboard magazine listed as no. 1 among the Best K-Pop albums of that year.
The 27-year-old artist, born Lee Ji-eun, hinted at the coming single after winning Digital Daesang (Song of the Year) and Digital Song Bonsang (main prize) for “Blueming” at the 35th Golden Disc Awards held 9 and 10 January in virtual ceremonies in South Korea.
“Blueming” was the second single of her November 2019 EP Love Poem.
In her acceptance speech, IU expressed gratitude for the recognition of the track.
And then she said: “My new album, which might energize listeners, will come out soon. One of the songs might be unveiled in January.”
IU has recorded four studio albums, three of which topped the charts, nine EPs and 24 no. 1 singles.
She’s one of the best-selling solo acts in the group-dominated K-Pop industry, and has figured on Forbes magazine’s annual Korea Power Celebrity list since 2012.
Billboard ranked IU at the top of its Korea K-Pop Hot 100 with the most no. 1 songs, which have also spent the longest weeks on the chart.
Aside from her music career, IU is also a radio and television host, and an actor.
Following her supporting role in the teen drama Dream High and appearances in other television series, she went on to star in You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin, Pretty Man, The Producers, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, My Mister, Persona and Hotel del Luna.
