At least three houses in Occidental Mindoro were damaged by the magnitude-6.3 earthquake that hit Calatagan, Batangas, earlier today.

Christopher Baronggo, operations and warning division chief of the Occidental Mindoro Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said the three damaged houses are owned by Councilor Alma Moreno, kagawad Albert Tabor, and one Ricky de Veas, all of Brgy. Bagong Sikat, Lubang town.

“Sa report po sa amin ay isa ang totally damaged pero kayang maremedyuhan pa, habang ang dalawa pa’y partially damaged,” Baronggo said by phone.

“Wala pong naiulat na nasugatan dahil karamihan sa mga tao ay nasa simbahan noon para sa misa,” he said.

The mass, however, was interrupted as the temblor struck 7:43 a.m., and churchgoers had to be herded outside for safety.

“Isa pa nga po dito sa mga nagpalikas sa kanila ay may-ari ng isa sa mga nasirang bahay,” Baronggo said.

Baronggo said authorities in Looc, the other town in Lubang Island, have yet to report any effect of the earthquake.

Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense-Calabarzon said it has not received information of any damage, even if the quake occurred within the region.

It said the Department of Public Works and Highways-4A is still monitoring and assessing roads and bridges.
