National Police chief Gen. Debold Sinas on Monday warned that people who will be caught holding or going to parties this holiday season will be arrested.
“Bawal ang party… Yes, of course,” Sinas when asked at a briefing if those holding or going to parties this Christmas and New Year season will be apprehended.
According to the PNP chief, he directed ground commanders to ensure that no party would be held in their areas, under guidelines of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-MEID).
Sinas, who himself got embroiled in controversy for partying amid tighter quarantine rules last May, said dinners will be exempted this time.
“Ang dinner is party din eh, but you have to observe required [health protocols].”
Meanwhile, Sinas said people who commit “lesser” violations of health protocols such as incorrect wearing or not wearing face masks and face shields will no longer be arrested.
“Nagbigay na po ako ng instructions na hindi na po arestuhin, kausapin lang at kung may makita i-correct na lang. Kung walang mask bigyan ng mask, kung walang shield bigyan ng shield,” he said.
The PNP chief also said ground commanders will not also tape, or muzzle, the guns of lawmen this holiday season.
He said this tradition’s effectiveness in preventing indiscriminate firing has been disproved.
“Proven kasi na maski may tape, kung gusto mong mamaril, gagawin mo,” he said.
Sinas, however, warned that policemen who will be proven guilty of unlawfully firing their guns would be dismissed from the service.
