WHAT WENT BEFORE: Skyway accidents here and there

Accidents happened and sad to say, major ones happened within or near the construction sites of multi-billion-peso Skyway Project.

Prior to the accident that happened Saturday morning at the SLEX East Service Road in Muntinlupa which led to the death of one and the injury of several others, three other major accidents happened in the past.

2 February 2020

A massive fire that engulfed a warehouse in Pandacan has caused a portion of the Skyway Stage 3 in Pandacan, Manila to collapse because of extreme heat.

The fire happened at a packing factory of San Miguel Corporation, the very same firm that leads the multi-billion-peso road project, on Tomas Claudio street, Pandacan.

The incident caused a monstrous traffic.

18 July 2017

A coping beam at the construction site of the Skyway Stage 3 project along Osmena highway corner Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City also collapsed. Five construction workers were injured in the accident.

Aside from the hurt workers, two private vehicles were damaged. The accident caused an enormous traffic.

23 March 2015

Heavy traffic greeted motorists who were on their way to the airport when Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Elevated Skyway collapsed along Andrews Avenue.

Five cars were damaged when a girder launcher fell on the road and hit them. The 180-ton machine was used to lift heavy parts of the flyover.

16 December 2013

Eighteen people died and several others were hurt when a bus fell off the southbound lane of the Metro Manila Skyway, and landed on a van.

The accident happened in a part of Paranaque City.

The Don Mariano bus (UVC 916) was plying the Novaliches-Pacita Complex route when it plunges from Skyway and landed on a van.

This incident has triggered calls for the government to conduct investigation to ensure that the elevated road is safe for motorists.
