Magnitude 5 quake rocks Batangas

A magnitude-5 earthquake rocked Mabini, Batangas, Thursday noon and was felt in nearby areas, including some parts of Metro Manila, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The quake struck 1:25 p.m., some 9 kilometers west of Mabini, PHIVOLCS said on its website.
It was tectonic in origin, with the focus located only 2 kilometers below the surface, the agency said.
Intensity 4 was experienced in Mabini, San Luis, Lemery, Rosario, Agoncillo, Calatagan, Balayan, Bauan, Sta. Teresita, of Batangas, as well as Tagaytay City, Alfonso, and Amadeo, of Cavite.
Intensity 3 was felt in Batangas City, Malvar, Talisay, Tanauan, and Alitagtag; and San Pablo City, Laguna, followed by Intensity 2 in Quezon City, Mandaluyong City, Navotas City, Majayjay, Laguna, and Dolores, Quezon.
Intensity 1 was recorded in Malabon City; Pasay City; Talisay, Batangas; and Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
The quake is not expected to cause damage, but aftershocks may occur, PHIVOLCS said.
