Solo artist and former 2NE1 member Gong Minzy has set up her own agency, MZ Entertainment, with professional management specialist Gong Soon Yong.
MZ Entertainment, whose name was derived by the demographic term “millennial Z generation,” aims to promote aspiring K-Pop artists in dancing.
Minzy left YG Entertainment in 2016 and joined The Music Works agency as a solo artist. However, she got into a dispute with The Music Works and filed an injunction to have her exclusive contract terminated.
Minzy also reportedly filed a claim of 50 million won ($43,000) against The Music Works.
At the time, Minzy posted on Instagram: “When I signed the contract, the agency promised at least four albums a year and promised to provide as much support as possible. However, I have only had one album for the past four years, and they have barely provided support for my activities. I have not been shown the statement of accounts a single time, and I did not receive even one won of profits. More than money, it is most important to me to be able to continue as an artist.”
In April, Minzy reached an agreement with The Music Works. Shortly after, she announced her departure from the agency.
Minzy’s solo activities are part of MZ Entertainment.
