The Philippines Football League (PFL) late Saturday has decided to call off its 2020 season kickoff initially set for tomorrow, 25 October, due to inclement weather.
Typhoon Quinta is expected to bring heavy rains into the same area where the PFL will open its fourth season which is at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
Meanwhile, the league also disclosed that five players and one coach have tested positive for COVID-19 during an RT-PCR procedure last 16 and 21 October and shall be isolated for the time being.
Further tests were also conducted on those with close contacts with these people last Saturday where three returned positive as well.
“We have anticipated this scenario hence there is a set of health and safety protocols in place for incidents such as this,” said PFL commissioner Coco Torre in a statement.
“What is important is that all continue to adhere to the protocols which are aimed to prevent or minimize the spread of the virus. Upon checking, we have confirmed that those who tested positive admitted had close contact with the player who was first to test positive.”
Three matches were supposed to be held Sunday with the debuting Azkals Development Team taking on Mendiola FC at 9 a.m. while Stallion was scheduled to face Kaya FC at 4:30 in the afternoon. United City was expected to start its title-retention bid against the debuting Maharlika FC at their 8 p.m. clash.
