Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar on Saturday is expecting the task force formed to investigate the corruption within the agency will submit its report within a month.
In a radio interview, Villar said that he is giving the task force a few weeks to a month to complete the probe and submit its findings soon.
He added that he appointed DPWH Assistant Secretary Mel John Verzosa to lead the investigation of the task force.
“In all agencies, there should be an internal audit and an internal investigation,” said Villar. “So I assigned Assistant Secretary Mel John Verzosa to oversee the anti-corruption task force and I already ordered to have the results as soon as possible.”
To recall, President Rodrigo Duterte earlier disclosed massive corruption in various infrastructure projects in the agency and the President has also cleared the DPWH chief of being involved in the anomalies, saying he has a lot of money to be involved in irregularities in the agency.
Villar also said that he has implemented various reforms in the last two years of his incumbency in the department.
Earlier, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque assured that Duterte can order the creation of an independent body if the President is not satisfied with the result of the DPWH probe.
Senator Panfilo Lacson has said corrupt officials inside DPWH are getting 1o percent to 30 percent kickbacks in various infrastructure projects. Some he said is getting the cut without the completion of the projects.
