The University Athletic Association of the Philippine (UAAP) has found a new home in Cignal TV.

In a statement Friday night, the country’s premier amateur league announced that it struck a deal with the network for the next five and a half years starting with Season 83 (2020-2021).

As part of the new deal, select events will be aired live on One Sports channel and its digital platforms which the league deemed will ensure an engaging and expansive coverage for UAAP.

“With its affiliate network TV5, their combined experience in sports production provides the UAAP with a strong foundation in its efforts to promote collegiate sports in the country,” the statement read.

“Despite the current challenges, the league is looking forward to the partnership as a new chapter that can take the UAAP to even greater heights.”

The league earlier said that it is planning to stage the virus-hit season in the first quarter of 2021 with a format similar to that of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

UAAP canceled Season 82 last April after threats from the COVID-19 overshadowed the league while it terminated its contract with longtime broadcast partner ABS-CBN after the network was denied a franchise.
