The Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go sent relief assistance to 877 market vendors of Maypajo Public Market and Larangay Public Market in Caloocan City on Thursday, 22 October.
The beneficiaries were provided each a meal, food pack, masks and face shields. Selected vendors also received bicycles for commuting to work amid the travel restrictions. Others were given tablets for their children to use in their online classes being implemented under the new blended learning approach.
Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development also provided financial assistance to the market vendors. The Department of Trade and Industry gave its commitment to extend aid upon conducting an assessment of beneficiaries seeking alternative livelihood opportunities.
In a video call, the chair of the Senate Committee on Health reiterated President Rodrigo Duterte’s commitment to prioritize the welfare of poor and vulnerable sectors when it comes to public service delivery.
Go offered to help those with medical concerns. In addition to this, he encouraged them to avail of medical and financial assistance from any of the 87 Malasakit Centers currently operating nationwide.
There are currently three hospitals near Caloocan City with Malasakit Centers, namely Navotas City Hospital, Ospital ng Malabon and Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital.
Lapitan ninyo lang po dahil ang target nito ay zero balance sa hospital bills,” he said, referring to the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019 he authored and sponsored in the Senate which was signed into law last December.
