Filipino rock band Slapshock, one of the most popular in its field, is history.
The breakup, confirmed to Daily Tribune by two confidential sources, stemmed from unauthorized cash withdrawals and misappropriation of talent fees by the band’s lead vocalist Jamir Garcia.
On Monday, 12 October, one of the band’s guitarists, Jerry Basco, filed at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office a criminal complaint of estafa and qualified theft against Jamir Garcia.
Jerry and Jamir are first cousins.
In his complaint, Jerry said that Jamir made unauthorized withdrawals of $4,150 (approximately P200,000) from the band’s royalties derived from digital sales of its songs.
The complaint also said that Jamir stole part of Jerry’s talent fees of more than P400,000 from the band’s sponsorship contract with a leading beer brand over a five-year period.
From 2015 to 2020, Slapshock earned P30 million from endorsing the beer brand.
