After remaining virus-free for more than seven months, the province of Batanes has recorded its first confirmed COVID-19 case on Monday, 28 September.
The patient is a locally stranded individual who arrived in Batanes on 22 September via a Philippine Air Force flight.
The 29-year-old patient is asymptomatic and is currently under strict isolation at the Batanes Resort.
The local government added that all identified ‘close contacts’ and other LSIs under quarantine are being strictly monitored by the Provincial COVID-19 Task Group.
They also reminded the public to observe minimum health standards such as wearing of masks and face shield, observing physical distancing and practicing proper hygiene.
