Former presidential aide and now Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go urged fellow lawmakers to respect President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to keep Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
But Go was quick to add that Duque should resign if he is found to be involved in any way in the corruption at PhilHealth.
“Health Secretary Duque still has the trust and confidence of the President and we must respect that. Sa totoo lang po, nangingiyak na po si Secretary Duque at gusto na talagang bumitaw,” Go said in a statement.
Go, who chairs the Senate Health Committee, believed that the Department of Health is doing its best to fulfill its duties especially now that the country is facing a health crisis.
The senator said he is awaiting the report of the task force led by the Department of Justice that conducted a parallel investigation into the alleged corruption inside the state insurance firm.
“Pag napatunayang may corruption, wala na pong dapat pag-usapan pa diyan. He has to go — at kung sino po yung sangkot sa corruption, kailangan pong umalis, kailangang managot, at kailangang makulong,” Go said.
