Two employees in the House of Representatives have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases at the chamber to 62.
House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales said Thursday the two employees are from the engineering department.
Montales said the two last reported to the House on 25 August.
”They were identified as close contacts of a confirmed case who is also from the same department,” Montales said.
He said the chamber is now in the process of identifying the close contacts of the employees.
Of the 62 cases in the House, 15 are active according to Montales.
Recently, Cavite Rep. Luis Ferrer IV announced in his Facebook account that he tested positive for COVID-19.
Ferrer is the sixth lawmaker to contract the virus after Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel, Sulu Rep. Samier Tan, Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman, Northern Samar Rep. Paul Daza and Senior Citizens Rep. Fransisco Datol Jr.
Datol died last 10 August.
Montales earlier advised House members and employees to report to work only when absolutely necessary.
“Do not physically report for work when experiencing or have experienced any of the COVID-19 symptoms within the last 14 days. When in doubt, assume the COVID-19-like symptom to be COVID-19,” he said.
