President Rodrigo Duterte is set to meet with key Cabinet members today to discuss the concerns raised by the medical community amid country’s fight against the coronavirus disease, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
Roque said he will make an immediate announcement on what transpired in the meeting once details are available.
“I will make the proper announcement in due course,” Roque said.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on Saturday night convened a meeting with key members of the Cabinet to address the concerns of the medical community.
Among the Cabinet secretaries present include Budget and Management Secretary Wendel Avisado, Trade and Industry Secretary, Ramon Lopez, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Ano, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Michael Ong and Presidential Assistant for Foreign Affairs Robert Borje.
Also included in the meeting are the National Task Force Chief Implementer Charlie Galvez, the anti-COVID czars namely Deputy Chief Implementer of the NTF Vince Dizon and One Hospital Incident Command Chief Leopoldo Vega. and Senator Bong Go, the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health.
“Recommendations from the aforesaid meeting will also be submitted tonight for the President’s review,” Roque said in a previous statement.
Roque said prior to the meeting convened by Secretary Medialdea, he and Secretaries Duque, Lorenzana, Lopez, Galvez, Dizon, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles and other senior government officials met with the representatives of the Philippine Medical Association, the Philippine Nurses Association, and the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists to discuss the concerns of the medical community amid the challenges of COVID-19.
He said the meeting took place Saturday afternoon after the press conference of the frontliners on Saturday morning. – With MJ Blancaflor
