PALO, Leyte — All the 51 staff at the apex hospital in Eastern Visayas as well as 10 employees of the Department of Health (DoH) who contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have all recovered, the DoH regional office reported.
“All of them have already recovered and in fact they are already back to their respective areas of assignment,” DoH regional director Minerva Molon said of the health workers who have been confirmed positive of the virus a month ago.
Over 100 health workers at Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) were subjected to extraction of swab samples for PCR-based testing after a number of nurses and physicians assigned at the Emergency department were found positive of the virus, prompting a three-day closure to give way to a disinfection of the facility.
Investigations on the surge of cases at the EVRMC showed that COVID-suspect patients in other areas of the region were mistakenly brought to the Emergency department instead of the COVID facility in its old building in another part of Tacloban City.
Aside from the EVRMC, 10 staff members of the DoH’s regional epidemiology and surveillance unit who were also found positive of COVID-19 have all been declared fully recovered from the virus and have returned to work.
On Friday, one new patient was added to the list of COVID-19 cases in Eastern Visayas, bringing the region’s total to 668. Out of this number, 631 of them or 94.46 percent have fully recovered.
