AT least 95,000 overseas Filipino workers affected by the coronavirus pandemic have already been transported to their homes in the provinces since May, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Cacdac said during the Laging Handa public briefing Saturday.

“Ang Hatid Probinsya Program ay umaabot na — approaching 95,000 na ang napauwi mula May 15,” Cacdac said.

Cacdac also said that about 230,000 displaced OFWs have already received the onetime P10,000 cash aid through the Abot Kamay Ang Pagtulong (Akap) program of the Department of Labor and Employment.

The OWWA official said the agency would be able to assist more as the Department of Budget and Management has recently approved its request for additional funding for its programs. The agency, he added would start providing livelihood assistance to the displaced OFWs beginning August.
