Passenger traffic at the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) fell 54 percent while cargo traffic was down 37 percent in the first five months of the year compared to the same period last year.
The MCIA Authority reported 2.5 million arriving and departing passengers from January to May 2020. Last year, 53 million passengers passed through the airport.
Of the 2.5 million, 1.7 million were domestic passengers, down 53 percent from 3.6 million in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, there were only 751,335 passengers on international flights from January to March compared to last year’s 1.7 million.
There were a total 23,572 domestic and international flights during in the last five months, 47 percent down from 44,539 flights in 2019.
There were 18,705 domestic flights, and 5,497 international flights.
As for freight traffic, 18.6 million kilograms of cargo passed through MCIA in the first five months of 2020, a 37 percent decrease from last year’s 30 million kilograms.
