The office of Senator Richard Gordon has condemned the murder of a 15-year-old girl from Cabugao, Ilocos Sur after she filed a complaint of molestation against two cops from the nearby town of San Juan.
The victim, Fabel Pineda, was shot dead last Thursday by two riders while on her way home with her uncle and cousin.
“We strongly condemn the remorseless killing of a 15-year old girl in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur by riding-in-tandem assailants. It is abhorrent. It has never been and should never be acceptable that we allow our citizens to be killed mercilessly,” read a statement from Eliseo Maraon, the media relations officer of Gordon’s office.
“Two cops are tagged as suspects to the case – they should be pursued not only for sexual assault or acts of lasciviousness but also for murder. We must not allow the victim to be turned into just another statistic,” added the statement issued Sunday.
Maraon mentioned the many riding-in-tandem killings that Gordon tried to solve through the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Law that he authored.
Under the said law, the plate number of motorcycles is made easily recognizable so riding-in-tandem criminals can immediately be tracked, identified, and arrested.
Meanwhile, the National Police Commission Regional Office 1 also condemned the killing and said it has begun an independent investigation.
