It has been an admittedly long time since one of South Korea’s girl groups BLACKPINK and international artist Lady Gaga made their comebacks.

So with all the time Filipino blinks and little monsters have been spending in quarantine and the drought their fandom experienced for a long time, it is safe to assume that they will exhaust their pent-up energies to support their favorite artists once they come back onstage.

So there was no surprise when Lady Gaga’s collaboration with BLACKPINK peaked at the top of the charts before the release of her sixth album “Chromatica” on 29 May. The song was released a day early as a “surprise” for both blinks and little monsters.

“Sour Candy,” which is a dance-pop song with Korean and English lyrics, sits on the number one spot in Spotify Philippines Top 50 chart. It also made waves on YouTube with 33 million views as of this writing, courtesy of the fandom power the blinks and little monsters have.

According to a report from Soompi, the girls had fun working with Lady Gaga, an artist that “they like so much.”

Lady Gaga was the one who reached out to the group for the collaboration.

“I called BLACKPINK first to suggest working together. The BLACKPINK members were happy and showed enthusiasm for the project, so we were able to collaborate thanks to that,” Lady Gaga revealed in an interview with Japanese outlet TVGroove on 27 May, according to a report by Soompi. Lady Gaga also shared that she felt like BLACKPINK’s fifth member while working on the collaboration.

The international artist added, “I wanted to support powerful women such as BLACKPINK and they felt the same.”

Besides their collaboration with Lady Gaga, blinks have another treat to look forward to as the four-member group is gearing up for a three-part comeback from June to build up the release of their full-length album in September.

“BLACKPINK has finished recording more than 10 new songs and has completed production for their first studio album,” YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK’s agency, disclosed last 18 May. “The BLACKPINK members are currently preparing to film the music video for the song, and they are picking up the pace of their final preparations, including practicing their new choreography.”

Buckle up, PH Blinks!
