BAGUIO CITY—The volume of garbage generated by households and essential business establishments during the nearly 11-week Luzon enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) dropped by approximately 25 percent here.

Baguio City General Services Office (GSO) chief Eugene Buyucan said the volume of residual waste hauled in March averaged 175 to 180 tons daily but in April, the volume dropped to approximately 140 tons.

It was reduced further to 133 tons on 1 to 15 May.

“The significant reduction can be attributed to the closure of numerous business establishments and the return of stranded individuals to their hometowns,” said Buyucan, adding that garbage collectors here worked round the clock during the ECQ implementation.

Buyucan urged residents to continue segregation of waste.
