Cainta cop shoots son dead, surrenders

A policeman who allegedly killed his own son voluntarily surrendered to authorities, according to the Cainta Municipal Police Station on Friday.

Authorities identified the accused policeman as P/Staff Sergeant Pepito Difuntorum Jr., 41, assigned at the Cainta Municipal Police Station and a resident of 269 Bohol Street, DM 2 Subdivision, Barangay San Roque, Cainta, Rizal. While the slain victim was identified as Paolo Difuntorum, 20, a resident of same address.

Based on an investigation conducted by Police Staff Sergeant Auggie Bidaure, at about 11:45 a.m. of 23 May, the suspect had a drinking spree with his wife inside their house.

An argument and a scuffle ensued between the suspect and his wife, prompting the son to pull his father away from his mother. Irked, the cop  drew his service firearm, chased his son downstairs and shot him once in the abdomen.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

After the incident, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to this station and turned over his service firearm, a 9mm Beretta, with 15 live ammunitions on its magazine and one fired cartridge case.

The suspect is currently detained at Cainta Municipal Police Station while charges of parricide will be filed against him.
