Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 10 Director Wilkins Villanueva on Tuesday, 26 May, took over the helm of the government’s anti-narcotics body replacing Aaron Aquino who was relieved from the post.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed the appointment paper of Villanueva, a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Maringal” Class of 1988, as new PDEA Director General on 22 May.

PDEA spokesperson Director Derrick Carreon welcomed the appointment of Villanueva who has nearly two decades of service in the field of drug law enforcement “both with the PNP (Philippine National Police) Narcotics Group and as one of the pioneering officers of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.”

“As a strong statement on his impending assumption to office, DG Villanueva emphatically stated that the war on drugs continues,” Carreon said in a statement.

Aquino, meanwhile, thanked the President for giving him the opportunity to lead his administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.

“I also thank the men and women of PDEA for their support to my leadership and dedication to the agency. Thank you for the honor of serving as the 6th Director General of PDEA,” Aquino said in a separate statement. “God bless us all on our next journey.”
