A 26-year-old architecture student who was returning home to Iligan City in Lanao del Norte was placed under isolation after he was found positive of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) upon arrival at the port of Cagayan de Oro City last Tuesday.
Mayor Oscar Moreno, in his virtual press conference Saturday morning, initially reported that the patient was a returning student with travel history from Cebu City. He was supposed to take the architecture board examinations in Cebu which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The student showed signs of mild respiratory illness upon arrival, so a swab test was taken and results from the Northern Mindanao Medical Center laboratory results last Friday showed that the patient was positive of the virus.
He was immediately placed in isolation at the city’s COVID-19 isolation unit where he was reported in stable condition but with occasional coughs.
Contact tracing was focused on co-passengers of the patient who were aboard the same ship when they were repatriated to their respective places of origin in Northern Mindanao.
