Karate Pilipinas president Richard Lim considers the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics as a blessing in disguise to their campaign.
Lim, a former national team stalwart, said the decision of the International Olympic Committee to move the Summer Games to next year gave them enough time to improve for various qualifying tournaments.
He said they would be fielding rising stars such as Junna Tsukii, Joanne Orbon and Jamie Lim and the cancellation of the Olympic gives them bigger room to improve.
“Actually, this situation went to our advantage. Our players are much younger and they are really going up,” Lim said, adding that the karatekas are working on the mental aspects of their games during the long lockdown brought by the coronavirus pandemic.
“We tapered down our training, but in terms of conditioning, speed, and power, we are still maintaining it despite being under quarantine.”
