Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra wants government prosecutors to prioritize the investigation of the complaints against 23 barangay officials in connection with the anomalous distribution of cash aid or the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) of the government due to COVID-19.
This was the answer of Guevarra to reporters yesterday when asked about the charges against erring barangay officials now facing criminal charges for various allegations about the SAP distribution.
“I will direct our prosecutors to give priority attention to the preliminary investigation of these criminal complaints. Twenty-three barangay officials are now facing criminal charges for cash aid related anomalies under the social amelioration program,” Guevarra said.
This was after the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group filed cases against them before the prosecutor’s office of the Department of Justice.
